Takoradi, June 9, GNA – The Wassa Amenfi Central District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised an educational session on plastic waste management for students from three selected schools in the district.

The session, held on the theme: “Ending Plastic Pollution – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, was part of this year’s World Environment Day celebration.

The participating schools were; St. Luke Academy, Achichre D/A, and Arabic School.

They recited poems, performed drama to depict the harmful effects of plastic pollution on the environment, and showcased some items recycled from plastic waste like skipping ropes, wall mounts among others.

Mr Anthony Kelvin Amoo, the Wassa Amenfi Central NCCE Director, during the event, said plastic pollution had become a significant environmental challenge that needed collective action from all stakeholders to tackle.

He said: “We see the students as stakeholders in this issue that is why we have brought them together to let them know that the survival of our environment depends on the actions we take.”

Mr Amoo urged them to be ambassadors of a clean environment in their communities and ensure that people do not dump refuse indiscriminately around their surroundings.

At the end of the event, certificates of participation were awarded to the schools for their innovative ideas on managing plastic waste.
