Manso (W/R), June 14, GNA — Nana Adarkwah Yiadom II, the Chief of Wassa Agyakaamanso, in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region, has appealed to the government to rehabilitate the deplorable roads to enhance socioeconomic activities in the area.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Chief said the poor nature of the road remained the most pressing challenge, directly impacting social and economic activities in areas as Agyakaamanso, Sefwi Bekwai, Juabo, Nkwanta Number 1 and 2, Sraha, Ankwaaso and Agona Amenfi,
“All commercial activities, including farming, are hampered by the negative impact of our poor road network,” he stated.
Nana Adarkwah II added that the onset of the rains had worsened the plight of road users in these communities.
He said drivers had been lamenting about how they continued to spend on maintenance due to the damages the bad road caused their vehicles.
He said: “The current condition of roads in the areas are beyond deplorable, rendering it almost unusable and negating the economic and social benefits it should provide.
“The most depressing consequences of the poor roads are increasing the rate of accidents through bursting of tyres and vehicle collisions as drivers and motorists attempt to dodge potholes.”
Nana Adarkwah II added that the traditional authorities had tried their best to draw the attention of government officials, Members of Parliaments from various political parties, and other stakeholders but all efforts had failed.
He, thus, called on the government and the Member of Parliament for the area to take swift action to fix the roads to enhance socio-economic development and improve upon the quality of life for the people of Agyakaamanso.
