Accra, June 24, GNA – Mfantsipim Old Students will play Adisadel College Old Students in the 2025 edition of the Jonah Golf Cup competition scheduled for July 1, 2025, at the Achimota Golf Club.

The seventh edition of the Jonah Golf Cup would be marked in honour of Dr Sam Jonah, Chef of Patron Golf, Adisadel College Old Boys, who popularly referred to as the ‘Santaclusians’.

The Santaclusians have lifted the cup four times, while Mfantsipim Old Students have lifted the trophy three times.

The alumni of Adisadel College would feature players like President David Atuwo, Capt. (Rtd) Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Okoe Allotey and other top golfers.

Speaking at the unveiling of the cup at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club at the Ghana Airforce Base, Dr Kweku Appietu-Ankrah, Captain of the SANTA family and the defending champions, said, “If our opponents do not touch the cup tonight, they should forget it. You know it will be fun, and trust Adisco when it comes to sports.”

Dr. Ernest Asimemu, Captain of MOBA Golf, said his team was well prepared and ready to snatch the trophy. He urged Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) and golf fans to be at the Achimota Golf Club to witness another great event.

Mr Mike Aggrey, a MOBA and former President of the Ghana Golf Association, would be playing alongside Martin Osei and President Eddie Nustugah.

He said, “MOBA is determined to achieve the tiebreaker in order to retain the bragging rights which they famously attained in the first and second encounters.”

He said, “Since its establishment, the Jonah Cup has been competed on seven occasions, with the Santaclausians bagging it four times, while the Botwe boys have managed three.”

Mr. Aggrey, the current Secretary General of the African Golf Confederation, said there were many merits in playing golf, such as networking, aside from the health benefits.

He said, “MOBA is an association that brings together all ‘Old Boys’ of Mfantsipim and creates a platform that promotes their common interests and brings development and progress to Mfantsipim.”

Corporate organisations such as Samsung, Telesel, Stanbic Bank and many others are supporting the event.
