2025 BECE commences smoothly in Northern Region.

Tamale, June 11, GNA – The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has commenced smoothly across all centres in the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region. 

The examination, which began on Wednesday, June 11, is expected to end on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. 

A press statement signed by the Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr Alhassan Alidu Jnr, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale, said 35,893 candidates from 769 schools across all 16 MMDAs in the region were participating in the examination. 

The statement indicated that of the 769 schools, 611 are public schools and 158 are private.  

A total of 32,592 candidates are from public schools, comprising 17,151 males and 15,441 females.  

Private schools registered 3,301 candidates, made up of 1,496 males and 1,805 females. 

The region has 128 examination centres, with 131 supervisors, 121 assistant supervisors, and 1,262 invigilators overseeing the process. 

The statement urged all candidates to approach the exams with confidence, honesty, and discipline. “True success is achieved through hard work and integrity. We strongly caution against any form of examination malpractice, as the consequences are severe and can jeopardize your academic future,” it stated. 

The statement also commended parents and guardians for their unwavering support throughout the academic journey of the candidates.  

It acknowledged the critical role played by teachers and school heads in shaping not only the academic abilities but also the moral values of students. 

As part of efforts to encourage candidates and ensure strict compliance with examination guidelines, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, and the Regional Director of Education, Mr Alhassan Alidu Jnr, along with other dignitaries, are scheduled to visit selected examination centres across the region. 

Meanwhile, a visit by the GNA to some centres in the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality showed that candidates and examination officials were fully prepared to begin the examination.
