Takoradi, May. 14, GNA- Nana Fobih Donkor II, Assistant Head of Department (HOD) for Communication and Media Studies, Takoradi Technical University, has called on government to put in place measures sustain the No-Fee Policy for all first years in public tertiary institutions.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he noted that the policy was a step in the right direction as it had come to ease financial burdens on parents and guardians.
According to him students who would be beneficiaries of the policy would have the privilege to pursue their dreams irrespective of their backgrounds or living conditions.
Touching on the efficacy of the policy on the quality of tertiary education, the HOD said much responsibility lied on the government to make sure that funds were available for disbursements each year.
He added that students must also appreciate the government’s efforts by taking their studies seriously in readiness to contribute to national development when they graduated from school.
“Know where you are coming from and make the best of such opportunity as it would go a long way to shape the future ahead,” he noted.
He charged various officers in tertiary institutions to also contribute to the effectiveness of the policy to help meet its expected results.
Speaking to some students at the university, Mr Justice Acquah, a level 100 Information Technology Student, shared the view that the No-Fee policy had come as a big relief to many individuals who wished to further their education to the tertiary level but lacked the funds to pursue their dream.
He noted that even though he paid his fees before enrolment, he was optimistic that the government would refund his money as promised through the online portal created for the refunding of the fees.
Mr Mawunya Amegan, a level 100 Mechanical Engineering Student also shared the same sentiment and hoped the policy would be sustained for the benefit of others who were yet to enroll in various public tertiary institutions.
