Obuasi Power Interruption: GRIDCo assures customers of fixing challenges

Kumasi, May 22, GNA – The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced that the power outage that hit the Obuasi township and surrounding communities on Wednesday night was due to a fire outbreak at its Obuasi station.

A statement signed by Ms Dzifa Bampoh, Manager, Corporate Communications Section, GRIDCo and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi indicated that at 2112 hours on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, a fire outbreak was reported from the Obuasi substation.

The statement explained that GRIDCo personnel immediately took out supply to customers from the station for safety reasons and the fire was quickly extinguished with the support of fire fighters from Anglogold Ashanti.

It assured that the Company’s team of engineers were carrying out checks to confirm the integrity of equipment at the station before restoring supply to customers.

The statement assured customers that efforts were being made to fix the challenge and restore supply as soon as possible.
