Accra, May 25, GNA – The National Cadet Corps has marked the 62nd Africa Union (AU) Day with a guard of honour at the AU Square in Accra, to celebrate the Continent’s cultural diversity and ensure a prosperous and united future.

The commemoration, held on Saturday, was on the theme: “Promoting Discipline and Loyalty Among the Youth.”

More than 60 cadets from the Forces Senior High School, Burma Camp, and Oreilly Senior School participated in the parade, reviewed by Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education.

He commended the National Cadet Corps for demonstrating the Pan-Africanist trait in marking the AU Day, which he said must be emulated by the youth.

“The National Cadet Corps initiative to commemorate this day is most commendable, demonstrating your commitment to Pan-Africanism. We appreciate your efforts in preserving Africa’s history and promoting unity among the youth,” he said.

Dr Apaak advised members of the cadet corps to uphold the tenets of discipline and loyalty as taught through their training and said those were the backbone of development.

“Discipline and loyalty are two vital pillars that underpin the progress and development of any nation,” he added.

Mr Nicholas Nii Tettey–Amarteifio, the National Cadet Coordinator General, reiterated the need for the youth to emulate the values of sacrifice and dedication as the forebears did, to propel the progress needed in Ghana and the rest of the continent.

The commemoration featured a wreath-laying on behalf of the youth of Ghana, the AU, and the Government, interspersed with patriotic songs including the popular “Yen Ara Y’asaase Ni”.
