I was determined to be a politician in Tema – Ebi Bright

Tema, May 29, GNA – Ms. Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has revealed that her decision to enter politics was driven by a longstanding genuine desire to serve the Tema community.

Ms. Bright said the aspiration to become a political leader in Tema was a deliberate and purposeful choice rooted in her commitment to development.

She made this known during a staff durbar organised by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

“You might see me in the political space in Tema trying for the past twelve years to get to represent Tema Central, and of course, what we’ve taken out of that is that you now call me a resilient woman, but the underlying factor in all my struggle is that I was just not standing as a politician; I was determined to be a politician in Tema,” she stated.

She further said: “So, first of all was my commitment to Tema. If it was just a commitment to my political party or a career in politics, I would have chosen an easier path.

“Tema Central is a place that should have been impossible, but that’s not the kind of person you have standing before you today.”

Ms. Bright, who previously contested for the parliamentary seat in Tema Central on three occasions but was unsuccessful, clarified that her appointment as MCE was not a reflection of political failure but rather recognition of her dedication and capabilities.

She also assured residents that she would operate an open-door policy, welcoming ideas and collaboration from all sections of society, regardless of political affiliation, saying that development must be inclusive and leadership must be responsive to the real needs of the people.

She expressed gratitude to God for helping her with the first part of her dream of being able to make a difference in Tema and thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in her to contribute her quota to the development of the region.

“I want to thank His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for analysing my situation appropriately and accurately. He didn’t say, by now I’m tired, so I should go and rest. He said, Let me give you what you’ve been fighting for, Tema. Let’s see what you’ll do with it.”
