Ghana International Women’s Club donates to Methodist Rafiki Satellite Village

Accra, May 25, GNA – The Methodist Rafiki Satellite Village (MRSV), a shelter for underprivileged children at Gyahaadze in the Effutu District, Central Region has received aa donation of assorted items and meditation valued at GHC78,000 from the Ghana International Women’s Club (GIWC).

The donation which forms part of the club’s Corporate Social Responsibility was aimed at supporting the running of the shelter.

Madam Rachel Wilkinson-Inja, Chairperson of the GIWC welfare committee, said the donation was made possible with contributions from members of the club and support from Unichem Ghana Ltd, Letap Pharmaceuticals, GR Industries, Gokals-Laborex Ltd, and Ghandour Cosmetics.

She said the club finds fulfilment in supporting the underprivileged in society.

“The smiles on the faces of our beneficiaries leaves us with a wonderful feeling, and motivates us to do more,” she said.

Madam Wilkinson-Inja said that the GIWC had been able to sustain its activities through fundraisers and donations from private individuals and organizations.

She expressed appreciation to their partners, and called on other organizations to support their operations.

The items included bags of rice, beans and gari. It also included bags of sugar, cartons of sachet milk and sachet Milo.

The rest are cartons of tomato paste, canned mackerel and detergents among others.

Receiving the items, Rev Dr Nana Abekah, Director, MRSV, expressed appreciation to the club for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way in supporting the operations of the shelter.

He said the shelter whose vision is to be the flagship embodiment of the Church’s social intervention initiative provides for the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of the children.

He noted that the shelter which started with six children, currently houses 94 children, of which 13 are in tertiary institutions across the country, with one other undertaking apprenticeship in tailoring.

Rev. Dr. Abekah appealed for more support for MRSV, saying besides support from the Methodist Church, the facility runs on the benevolence of organizations such as the GIWC.
