Techiman, (Bono East) May 23, GNA – The Bono East Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has set-up a taskforce to check service providers against collection of illegal charges (co-payments) from beneficiaries of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to Mr Kingsford Gyamfi Opoku, the Bono East Regional Director of the NHIA, the Authority in the region remained committed to working hard and to put the nation on the edge to achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and would therefore tackle challenges confronting the NHIS.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman, Mr Opoku said with the taskforce in place the reported issues of co-payment would be brought under control for the beneficiaries, especially, the vulnerable in society to enjoy the scheme.

Mr Opoku said the Authority would soon undertake exercise at public places including lorry stations and markets to renew the membership and register those who could not visit the offices, saying it also intended to intensify community sensitization to increase membership.

“In line with the Chief Executive Officer’s vision, the authority will continue to embark on sensitization for the people to understand the concept of the NHIS and to renew their membership, while registering new members”, he stated.

Mr Opoku urged members of the scheme to use the “My NHIS APP” and the short code (*929#) to renew their membership.
