Anyinasie (WNR), May 31, GNA -The Finance Department of Asante Gold Corporation has handed over a refurbished Six unit Classroom Block to the Anyinasie M/A Basic School in the Bibiani Anwhiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

Speaking at the commissioning, Stephen Asante Yamoah, General Manager of Chirano Gold Mines,LTD, on behalf of the Finance Department, said the refurbishment of the school block was the company’s commitment to fostering educational excellence and development of the human resources capacity of their host community and catchment areas.

He said the company at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, launched a special initiative dubbed “My First Day at School” within the over 20 catchment communities, which witnessed the donations of educational materials and also spending time with the school children to support their return to school.

According to him, a visit to the school enabled the Finance, Supply Chain and IT Department to choose the  Anyinasie Basic School as a beneficiary.

He Indicated that when the group visited the school for the first time they met a distressing situation with the classrooms plagued with bats, leaking roofs, ceilings caved in and walls cracked.

He said the group mobilised funds to replace the entire roofing and ceiling, the damaged walls and floors as well as painted the walls.

The General Manager said the renovation of the school was the beginning of a lasting relationship between the Company’s Department and the school.

“My First Day at School” is now an annual commitment by all Departments to support and engage meaningfully with the schools they have adopted”.

Mr Yamoah appealed to the headmaster and staff to take good care of the facility and continue to nurture the pupils to become responsible citizens in future.

He asked the pupils to take pride in the school and protect it and learn hard.

Mr Yamoah expressed gratitude to the Finance, Supply Chain, and IT Departments for the gesture, adding that the donation reflected Asante Gold Core Values of safety, Ownership, Teamwork and continuous Improvement.

Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum, Western North Regional Minister, on behalf of the Western North Regional Coordinating Council, lauded the development initiatives, of the company, training of the youth and scholarship opportunities to indigenes in the company’s catchment communities.

The Regional Minister also used the opportunity to advise the pupils to take their studies seriously since that was the only way to become useful in the future.

Mr Atta Francis, headteacher of the school, who is also the Assembly Member for Surano electoral area, commended the company for the donation, noting that the school had not seen any major maintenance since 2006.
