Accra, April 29, GNA- The Gbese community, headed by the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, has unveiled a plaque in memory of the distinguished late Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey.
In addition to the plaque, the principal street running from the old Bank of Ghana building, through the General Post Office and in front of his residence to Palladium, has been named after him in recognition of his formidable exploits within the Ga State.
The commemorative event was attended by Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe (Board Member of Hearts), who led the entire playing body and the technical staff, as well as some officials.
Other notable personalities who attended the event included Vincent Odotei Sowah (Former MP and Deputy Minister of Communications), Alhaji Akambi, and the Mr Harry Zakour, a former Chief Executive of Accra Hearts of Oak Club.
The Gbese Mantse used the occasion to formally announce the fourth successor to Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey as Gbese Asafoatse Nukpa (Youth Chief), in the person of Asafoatse Christopher Tetteh Nettey II, and confirmed his legitimacy to the role.
The Head of Family for the Asafoiatse C.B Nettey Descendants transferred authority to attorneys (family members) for the administration of the Estate of Asafoiatse C.B Nettey.
He read a Citation of Honour to their family secretary, Herbert Akai Nettey, and awarded him a Grand Medal.
Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey was a prominent scholar, politician, entrepreneur, and sports enthusiast who founded Accra Hearts of Oak Football Club in 1911.
