Accra, April 25, GNA – The Fidelity Bank Ghana has commissioned a modern electronic library for the Tesano Cluster of Schools in the Okaikwei North Municipality, reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable quality education.
The project, executed in collaboration with Uniwiz Foundation, falls under the Bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility programme, the Orange Impact Initiative, which seeks to improve infrastructure and learning outcomes in underserved public schools across the country.
The newly inaugurated facility is equipped with internet-enabled computers, high-speed connectivity, interactive software and a range of digital learning tools, an official release issued to the Ghana News Agency Friday, said.
It is expected to benefit more than 1,000 pupils and teachers by improving digital literacy, promoting research and reading, and aligning learners with 21st-century learning methods.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES), traditional leaders, community members, school authorities, pupils, and staff of Fidelity Bank.
In a speech read on behalf of the Bank’s Managing Director, Mr Julian Opuni, the Regional Sales and Service Manager for Accra West, Mr Carl Nii Ayikwei Tetteh, underscored the essence of the intervention.
“We are not just handing over computers or equipment. We are helping to close a gap – one that limits many bright, young students from reaching their full potential simply because they lack access to basic learning tools in a digital age,” he said.
“Through Orange Impact, and as part of our promise to be ‘Here for Your Journey’, we are proud to walk beside our young learners, their teachers, and their communities.”
The e-library at Tesano brings to ten the number of beneficiary schools under the Orange Impact Initiative since its launch in 2022, as part of the Bank’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
The initiative supports schools through infrastructure upgrades, refurbishment works and the provision of teaching and learning materials, with funding from the Bank and contributions from staff.
The construction of the Tesano facility was led by the Uniwiz Foundation. Its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Whizdom Larry, applauded Fidelity Bank for its commitment to education.
“We are proud to have built this space in partnership with Fidelity. Beyond the digital tools, we also created a section dedicated to traditional reading, a quiet space filled with physical books where students can read and reflect,” Mr Larry stated.
“We believe in a balanced learning model, where technology enhances, not replaces, the power of reading.”
The Okaikwei North Municipal Education Director, Mrs Cynthia Aboni, commended Fidelity Bank for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
“What Fidelity Bank has done today is more than an act of goodwill—it is a meaningful intervention that addresses real challenges in our schools. The E-Library will help bridge the digital divide and give our pupils an opportunity to compete on a more level playing field,” she said.
She called on other institutions to emulate the Bank’s gesture.
A student representative, the Assistant Girls’ Prefect of Tesano 2 Basic School, Miss Coleman Precious Agyeiwaa, also expressed the students’ appreciation.
“We are so happy and grateful for this E-Library. Now, we can learn more, do research for our assignments, and even learn how to use a computer. Thank you, Fidelity Bank, for thinking about us and helping us dream big,” she said.
The project forms part of Fidelity Bank’s broader efforts to support the educational sector and reflects its long-standing belief that education is a key driver of national development.
