Tema, March 12, GNA – The Anglican Diocese of Tema (ADoT) has commissioned a professional Sewing Ministry aimed at producing standardized liturgical vestments and creating employment opportunities for the youth within the church.

The commissioning ceremony was led by the Anglican Bishop of Tema, The Rt Rev’d Dr. George Kotei Neequaye, and the Mother Superior, Mrs. Esther Neequaye, at the project site located in Community 22.

The ADOT Sewing Ministry, an initiative under the Women’s Ministry of the Diocese, is set to produce altar linens, cassocks, cottas, and other church vestments in all liturgical colours for use by less endowed churches across the diocese.

The ADOT Sewing Ministry was promoted by Dr. Mrs. Mary Akweley Cobblah and has received full backing from the Bishop and Mother Superior.

The facility, which has been fully equipped for smooth operations, brings together professional seamstresses and tailors from various parishes in the Diocese who assemble periodically to sew for church use.

The project is being supported by a group of philanthropists.

It is expected to not only enhance the uniformity and dignity of liturgical attire across the Diocese but also serves as a practical training ground for young people within the church to acquire vocational skills and secure livelihoods.

Speaking at the commissioning, Bishop Neequaye described the project as a laudable initiative and commended its promoters and sponsors for their vision and commitment to the development of the church and the welfare of its members.

He called on other professionals within the Diocese to emulate the gesture by using their skills to support the church and champion similar initiatives.

“This is a great example of how the Church can tap into the professional capacities of its members to meet its internal needs while also addressing broader social challenges such as youth unemployment,” Bishop Neequaye said.

The Bishop urged other professionals in the Anglican Diocese of Tema to come together and explore avenues to contribute meaningfully towards the growth of the church and the empowerment of its members.
