Accra, March 7, GNA- The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, has absorbed the Savannah College of Education into the public college system.
The initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality teacher education and fortifying the nation’s educational framework.
A statement from the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, said the Savanah College of Education had gone through the required review and satisfied the necessary processes for its transition from the private institution to a public one.
The transition, the statement said, meant that the institution would operate under the governance and funding framework of the public tertiary education system.
The absorption is expected to expand access to teacher education, enabling more students across the country to pursue teaching careers.
It would enhance the quality of training through state-funded infrastructure, professional development for faculty and curriculum improvements, it said.
The absorption, the statement noted, would promote equity by providing resources to strengthen teacher education in underserved regions.
The Ministry of Education commended all stakeholders for their instrumental roles in facilitating the smooth transition.
It called on the students, faculty and stakeholders to fully embrace the transition and work together to establish the college as a centre of excellence in teacher education.
