Accra, March.26, GNA – The Danny List Foundation has sponsored two Junior Chess players to participate in the 2025 World Schools’ Championship in Serbia.
The players, Glenn Johnson Botwe and Alba Karina Quartey dropped out of Ghana’s team due to financial constraints, despite qualifying for the championship.
With the intervention of the Danny List Foundation, the Junior players have now arrived in Serbia to take part in the event.
Madam Angela List, Chairperson of the Danny List Foundation in an interview with the GNA Sport said the decision to sponsor the two chess players was motivated by the foundation’s commitment in promoting least financed sports as a tool for youth development.
She said Chess was one of the major sports that lacked funding in the country hence the need to play their part in supporting the team.
“The Danny List Foundation has been a long-time supporter of such sports development in Ghana, providing sponsorship and resources to talented young players and promoting the game in schools and communities across the country so I am excited we have been able to do this again”, she said.
She wished the players well and urged them to put in more effort and win medals for Ghana.
Mr. Phil John Quartey, an Accra based Sports Journalist and father of the beneficiaries expressed his utmost gratitude especially to Madam Angela List for the foundation’s swift response.
He also thanked the management of TT Brothers Ghana limited and Experts consult limited for their added sponsorship for the young chess players.
Danny List Foundation, a non-governmental organisation had over the years provided opportunities for children and young adults to improve their skills and develop love for sports.
The school’s Chess World Cup is a prestigious international tournament that brings together top junior chess players from around the world and this year’s event has attracted over 700 young players from 43 national federations competing across a host of categories from U7 to U17 with separate open girl’s event.
