The recognition took place during the second edition of the CelebrateHER Empowering Women Summit, held in Tamale, over the weekend as part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations.

Among the individuals honoured at the event were Professor Adiza Sadik, Senior Lecturer, Tamale Technical University, Hajia Hawawu Alice Salifu, Retired Banker and Traditional Leader, Madam Emelia Ayipio Asamoah, Head of Workforce Development, Mastercard Foundation, Mbitawurche Alijata Haruna, Women Empowerment Advocate, Mr Peter Mintir Amadu, Executive Director, Total Life Enhancement Centre and Mr Benjamin Dimongo Kafari, Executive Director, ASERD-Ghana.

The event was organised by Balmaisha Foundation, an NGO dedicated to supporting preterm babies and their families, under the theme: “Empowering Women, Accelerating Change.”

It brought together key stakeholders in the women empowerment space including traditional authorities and students from second cycle institutions.

The summit was held in collaboration with partners such as Norsaac under its Power to Youth Consortium, Tiyumba Hope Foundation, Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-Ghana), LittleBig Souls, Fatimah Gomda Cares Foundation, Bright Path Foundation, and Verna Water.

Mrs Fayudatu Yakubu, Executive Director of Balmaisha Foundation, speaking during the event, said it was to celebrate the achievements of women and recognise the invaluable contributions of male allies, who championed women’s empowerment.

She said empowering women went beyond acknowledging their struggles calling for collective action to address gender disparities and create platforms that celebrated women breaking barriers, shaping industries, and driving positive societal change.

Hajia Alima Sagito Saeed, Executive Director of SWIDA-Ghana, praised the role of supportive men in amplifying women’s voices, noting that inclusive governance and leadership advocacy thrived with male allies.

Mr Peter Mintir Amadu, one of the honourees, expressed gratitude to Balmaisha Foundation and its partners for recognising their efforts towards empowering women.
