Kumasi, Mar 08, GNA – In an ambitious step towards restoring Kumasi to its glorious past as the “Garden City”, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has inaugurated a Ministerial Committee on Sanitation and City Greening.

The inauguration of the committee is a major initiative which seeks to clean and beautify the city of Kumasi to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

The mandate of the committee is to develop strategic policies to improve waste management and urban greening, while coordinating sanitation efforts across communities, markets and public spaces.

It would also enhance public education and awareness on responsible waste disposal, assess and advise on the reintroduction of sanitation enforcement officers to maintain discipline.

Dr. Amoakohene at a brief inauguration ceremony, declared every day as a sanitation day in the Ashanti Region and charged everyone to be each other’s keeper by personally taking responsibility for their surroundings.

He said beyond the daily commitment to sanitation; a large-scale cleanup exercise would be held every month in selected strategic areas within the metropolis.

To ensure accountability, the Minister disclosed plans to introduce radical measures, including fines and penalties for those who indiscriminately litter.

“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and together, we will restore Kumasi to its former glory,” the Regional Minister declared.
