Effia (WR), Feb. 15, GNA – The South West Business District of the MTN has organised a blood donation exercise to raise many pints of blood for the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital blood bank.
The annual event is to show love to individuals and the patients who might need such critical lifesaving commodity.
Mr. Kenneth Ofusuhene, the District Communication Manager for the MTN said the company hoped to raise over 6100 units of blood which would be the highest since the ‘Save a life’ campaign started.
He noted that some 42 bleeding centres would collect blood under the project this year.
At the Takoradi Technical Institute and GSTS, Health workers from the National Blood Service screened eligible donors, provided counselling and guide on blood donation.
For blood donations, healthy persons between the ages of 17 and 60 can donate if he or she meets the screening requirements.
Madam Mary Avormey, the Donor Care from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital called on institutions to support with logistics.
She educated that blood donation helped patients undergoing surgeries, accident victims, pregnant women, and cancer patients requiring hospitals to have constant supply of blood for emergencies and medical crises.
“We would like to appeal to the public to use this day to demonstrate their love to all Ghanaians by coming to the various centres to donate a unit to save a life”.
The exercise wound not only stock the various blood banks but also serve as a motivation to health practitioners knowing that blood was available.
