Germany beat Israel 3-1 in Davis Cup, next face Japan

Berlin, Feb 1, (dpa/GNA) – Germany beat Israel 3-1 on Saturday, to advance to the second qualifying round for the 2025 Davis Cup Finals, despite the absence of top star Alexander Zverev.

ATP Finals doubles champions, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz, clinched the deciding third point, ahead of the two reverse singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Daniel Cukierman und Amit Vales.

Ofek Shimanov won the fourth rubber 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 10-8 against Daniel Masur, while the final match was not played.

Germany led 2-0 overnight, after Maximilan Marterer and Yannick Hanfmann had won the opening singles rubbers.

Israel were hosts, but due to the political situation in the Middle East, the tie was played in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Zverev was absent a week after playing in the Australian Open final, and Germany were also without Jan-Lennard Struff who had to withdraw from the squad due to illness.

The second qualifying round for the November finals in Bologna, Italy, is in September. There Germany will face Japan, who beat Britain 3-2.
