Accra, Feb. 18, GNA – Members of the Catholic Health Professionals Guild have donated medical supplies to the St. Francis Clinic and Rehabilitation Centre at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region to aid healthcare delivery.

The items, including wheelchair, trolley, drip stand, sanitizers and hospital consumables were presented as part of activities marking this year’s World Day for the Sick.

The Day is observed by the Church, every year, to offer prayers for those suffering from different forms of illness. This year’s activity was on the theme: “Hope Does Not Disappoint.”

St. Francis Clinic and Rehabilitation Centre provides support for persons addicted to alcohol and drugs. It was established in August 2012 through a collaboration between non-governmental agencies, Recovery Africa and Hopeful Way Foundation.

The Reverend Father Eric Kabenlah, the Priest-in-Charge of the facility, said 60 persons were currently receiving treatment at the centre, which is regulated by the Christian Health Association of Ghana.

He explained that the treatment process was between three to six months, however, limited resources affected the number of people the centre could accommodate.

“Resources available are limited hence we do not encourage walk-in services and do not forcefully admit clients…We have people coming in from neighbouring countries for treatment, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate everyone,” he noted.

Rev Fr. Kabenlah commended CPG for the support and urged other well-meaning organisations and individuals to provide aid.

Dr Felix Abeyifah Bowuo, the President of the Catholic Health Professionals Guild, emphasised the importance of psychological and social support for people battling addiction, and called on health professionals to stay committed to the task.

Rev Fr. David Ammisah Andoh, Director of the Department of Marriage, and Family Life, urged Christians to show love to all categories of persons.
