Agortoe (VR), Feb 13, GNA-Residents of Agortoe in the Anloga District of Volta Region are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to complete the ‘Agenda 111’ hospital projects in the area.
The Agenda 111 hospital projects, sited at Agortoe, was initiated by New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under former president Nana Akufo-Addo, aimed to promote quality healthcare delivery at various districts across the country.
Madam Francisca Anaglo, the Assembly Member of the area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the project when completed would mitigate the plight of many surrounding communities in search for better healthcare facility.
“The last time we saw the workers here was somewhere in November last year and the work on the facility has been halted for some time now, we are eagerly waiting and hoping that workers will return to continue and complete the facility,” she said.
Madam Anaglo appealed to the government to prioritise the continuation of the project for the benefit of communities around the area to alleviate the pressing pressure on the only small health centre in the Agortoe township.
She said the only health centre in the area was marred with challenges such as inadequate staff, equipment among others and the Agenda 111 hospital project when completed would serve as a major facility boost for quality healthcare delivery.
“I was told the project was in two folds with separate contractors and it is clear that the projects are at various stages of completion currently. What l also understand was that one facility is at 60 per cent and the other is about 70 per cent complete.”
Mr Senyavor Wordui, a resident at Agortoe urged the government to as a matter of urgency complete the facility to avoid it from deterioration and loss of money and resources and also create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
He said that “we believed in the NDC, we gave them the maximum votes to come back to power, and this is the time the party and president Mahama have to compensate and pay us back through the completion of this project.”
He said many patients traveled far distances on referrals to receive adequate healthcare at bigger and well-equipped hospitals and the Agenda 111 projects would be beneficial when completed.
Meanwhile, Mr Seth Yormewu, the Former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga, in an earlier interview with GNA, emphasised that governance was a continuous process, and the present government should prioritise the completion of the facility which was at various stages of completion to save taxpayers’ money.
Some residents in the area GNA engaged also appealed to the government and other well-meaning Ghanaian to help complete the facility for the benefit of the area.
The Agenda 111 hospital project was part of a larger initiative by NPP government to improve healthcare infrastructure in Ghana and the project involves the construction of 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals, and two specialised hospitals, among other facilities.
