Western Region NDC Chairman lauds President for nominating Nelson as Western Regional Minister

Tarkwa (W/R), Jan. 20, GNA – Nana Kojo Toku, Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for nominating Mr Joseph Nelson as the Western Regional Minister.

According to him, Mr Nelson has the expertise and would bring fresh ideas to the table to build on the progress made by the past government in the region.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the new appointment, Nana Toku said, “l have worked with Mr Nelson for 12 years in the region as the regional secretary of the NDC. He knows the challenges in the region, so when the opportunity came l presented his name to the President and am glad, he accepted him”.

He said, “I am confident that the regional minister designate will not only excel in his new role, but he will make our region proud because he has worked so hard to bring the NDC to power”.

Nana Toku called on Mr Nelson to prioritize the completion of ongoing projects such as roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, among others to improve upon the quality of life of the residents.

“The construction of a first three-tier interchange and the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment project should be your first two priority projects when you assume office. We will provide the necessary support to ensure the projects are completed on time,” he emphasized.

The chairman recalled “Residents of Western Region voted overwhelmingly for President Mahama and even gave us fifteen out of the seventeen parliamentary seats in the region. We cannot afford to disappoint them.”

In a related development, some residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency also shared their views on the nomination of the new regional minister with GNA.

Mr Kofi Baah, a miner, explained that Western Region was endowed with lots of natural resources, but the region remained one of the poorest in the country.

He stated that with the proper management of the resources, it would transform the local economy and improve the lives of the residents and the country.

Mr Baah said with the right policies and investments, the resources would attract investors who would help create jobs for the teeming youth.

Mrs Gifty Owusu-Ansah, a businesswoman, urged the regional minster designate to promote local businesses, support entrepreneurship, and engage local stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities.
