MPs elect Deputy Speakers of Parliament

Members of Parliament (MPs), on the dawn of Tuesday, elected Mr Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South, as First Deputy Speaker and Mr Andrew Asiamah Amoako, MP for Fomena, as the Second Deputy Speaker.


Speaker Bagbin suspends sitting of Parliament

Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has suspended the first sitting of the first meeting of the first session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

The House will reconvene at 1000 hours at the Independent Square for the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.


Alban Sumana Bagbin re-elected, Sworn-in as Speaker

Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin was, in the early hours of Tuesday, elected Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

Speaker Bagbin, who previously served as the Speaker of the Eight Parliament, was nominated by Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government, and Seconded by Mr Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader.

The Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo administered the oath of allegiance and oath of office to Mr Bagbin.


Acting Clerk to Parliament presides at Ninth Parliament Inauguration

Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Acting Clerk to Parliament is Presiding over the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana for the election of a Speaker and his two Deputies.

This will be followed by their swearing-in and Members of the House.


MPs-elect enter Chamber of Parliament

Members of Parliament-elect have started arriving in the Chamber of Parliament ahead of the election of the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament and his two Deputies, and their inauguration.


Families, traditional rulers and well-wishers of Members of Parliament-elect take seat in public gallery

Ahead of the inauguration of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, the families, friends, traditional rulers and well-wishers of Members of Parliament-elect have started taking their seats in the public gallery of the Chamber of Parliament as at 2100 hours.
