Accra, Jan. 20, GNA – The 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) will include new categories as well as updated definitions for existing ones.
The call for entries for this year’s awards is scheduled to open later this week, with artistes seeking recognition submitting requests in various categories.
The new categories introduced for the 26th TGMA include Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song, Best African Song and Traditional Artiste of the Year.
The Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category celebrates the blend of traditional gospel with modern urban influences, highlighting Ghanaian artistes creativity.
The Traditional Artiste of the Year category which would be solely adjudged by the board would recognise outstanding artiste who have thrived in folklore music.
The Best African Song category is defined as the most popular song of a non-Ghanaian African artiste commercially released in the year of review.
Also, the newly introduced Titan award would be presented to music industry contributors who have made immense contributions to the growth and development of the music industry.
The highly prestigious Artiste of the Year category has also been redefined as “the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review.
“The artiste must have released a hit single, EP/ Album, and must be one of the artistes with the highest number of nominations in the year under review.
