Wenchi, (Bono), Jan. 3, GNA – A queen-mother has congratulated the President-elect John Dramani Mahama for his electoral victory in the Election 2024, urging his government to appoint more women into political positions.
Nana Akosua Twumwaa, the Banmuhemaa (sub-queen) of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono Region who gave the advice said women were trustworthy, honest and God fearing.
She said appointing more women in government would reduce corruption which remained the bane of accelerated national development.
Interacting with the media at Wenchi, Nana Twumwaa said women ought to be given equal opportunity in government to demonstrate their potential and leadership abilities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“More women must also be appointed to serve as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Ministers of State, and Board Members,” she stated.
Nana Twumwaa also urged the in-coming government of Mr Mahama to strengthen the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme for more Ghanaian children to benefit.
She also called on Mr Mahama’s government to actively engage chiefs and queens in the nation’s development processes.
