Ho (V/R), Jan. 31, GNA – A total of nine women have been shortlisted for Municipal and District Chief Executive (MDCE) positions in the Volta Region following a vetting process that assessed 30 female applicants.

The women, drawn from eight constituencies, now await final selection and appointment by the President to serve as Chief Executives in their respective Municipal and District Assemblies.

A press statement issued by the Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), dated January 31, and signed by the Acting Regional Secretary, Mr. Bright Kwashie Ege, officially confirmed the shortlisted candidates.

The nine shortlisted women are: Ms. Sename Leyo Vicentia (Agortime-Ziope), Ms. Sandra Seyram Kpedor (Anlo), Ms. Rebecca Agboga (Adaklu), Ms. Solace Juliana Dzeble Adjah (North Dayi), Ms. Elizabeth Edem Tsekpodoe (Kpando), Ms. Zogli Vida (Afadzato South), Ms. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe (North Tongu), Ms. Aretha Aku Agbeyome (South Tongu) and Ms. Victoria Dzeklo (South Tongu).

The selection of these women highlights efforts towards gender balance and inclusivity, as they represent eight out of the 18 municipal and district assemblies in the region. Their potential appointment would mark a step forward in increasing women’s representation in local governance.

Meanwhile, Ms. Delfia Fafa Agbai, the Volta Regional Women’s Organizer of the NDC, has appealed to the President to consider appointing more women to the assemblies.

She recalled that during her tenure as District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, only six women held such positions across the region.

However, she expressed optimism that, with 30 women vetted this time, at least seven or eight should receive appointments as MDCEs.

“It is encouraging to see more women stepping forward for leadership roles, and I hope the final appointments will reflect a stronger female presence in local governance,” Ms. Agbai stated.

The vetting process, which took place over a week, examined 237 applicants, including 30 women and 207 men.

The final appointments by the President are expected to be announced soon.
