BISSAU, Jan. 22 (Xinhua/GNA) — Guinea-Bissau on Monday celebrated a holiday, dedicated to political and military figures who fought in the country’s
war of liberation, that led to independence on Sept. 24, 1973.
President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, in his address, hailed the “patriotism of these men and women” and the “sacrifices” they made for the honor of their
homeland.
Minister of National Defense, Dionisio Cabi, Minister of Freedom Fighters Aly Hijazy, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Biague Na Ntan, and other
officials attended the ceremony, which took place at the Amura Fortress, where the mausoleum of Amilcar Cabral, the father of the Bissau-Guinean nation,
is located.
