Keta (VR) Jan 16, GNA – Mr Nicholas Gborse, a governance expert in the Volta Region, has congratulated Mr James Gunu for his nomination as the Volta Regional Minister.

Mr Gunu, currently the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Volta Regional Secretary, was among the first 10 regional ministers nominated by President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Gborse, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said Mr Gunu, who previously served as Akatsi North District Chief Executive, has the potential to lead the region as its minister.

“One duty of the regional minister is to unite and collaborate with all the municipal and district chief executives under him or her for the progress and development of the area, and l commend President Mahama for nominating Mr Gunu,” he said.

He expressed the hope that the vetting committee would approve the nominee to lead the regional development task and find solutions to the numerous challenges many of the communities faced.

Mr Gborse urged Mr Gunu, when given the nod, to prioritise job creation, road infrastructure development, extension of electricity to communities yet to be served, water projects, agriculture development and security to safeguard life and property.

“I think the most pressing areas in the Volta Region now, which the minister-designate should look at critically, is the issue of job creation

for the youth and road construction, especially the Ho-Aflao trunk road,” he said.

Mr Gborse appealed to the Government to prioritise its campaign promises, particularly resetting the economy, to alleviate the challenges of the people.

He said: “To whom much is given much is expected, and many are expecting much more development projects from the NDC-led government. Mr Gunu is a home boy who knows the areas and their various challenges very well.”

He commended the President for all the nominations so far, which were in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution.

Mr Dickson Dzotepe and Madam Doris Wumenu, residents of Keta and Anloga, respectively, told the GNA of their satisfaction with the nomination and appealed to the vetting committee to approve Mr Gunu for progressive development of the region.

They charged the Volta Regional Vetting Committee on the Municipal and District Chief Executives to select the best for development.
