Accra, Jan 20, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has assured the public it is working with the Volta River Authority (VRA) and other agencies to safeguard the Akosombo Dam and its surrounding areas.

This assurance follows a visit by the Eastern Regional Fire Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer I (ACFO I) Mr. Timothy Osafo-Affum, to assess the situation after a bushfire was reported near the dam on Friday.

The GNFS clarified that the fire was not close to the Akosombo Dam, despite social media claims.

In a Facebook post, the GNFS emphasized that personnel were stationed in the area to monitor the situation and respond swiftly to any developments.

The Service assured the public that there was no cause for alarm.

It also reminded citizens about the importance of bushfire prevention and the need for proactive measures to avoid such incidents.
