Accra, Jan 14, GNA – Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate, has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Ghana’s interests in all international contracts and legal transactions.
He also emphasised the need for robust measures to shield the public from potential losses in such dealings.
Dr Ayine said this during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee in Parliament House, Accra on Monday.
On Thursday January 9, President John Dramani Mahama submitted his first batch of ministerial nominations to the Speaker of Parliament in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
The nominees are Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Minister of Finance Designate; Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy Designate; and Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Attorney -General and Minister of Justice Designate.
Dr Ayine added that he had the capability to handle international arbitration matters effectively.
With his extensive experience in international arbitration, Dr Ayine assured the panel of his capability to handle complex legal matters effectively.
“…Mr Chairman, I can assure the house that if they are legal contracts before the London Court of Arbitration, I’m familiar with that tribunal. I have appeared before that tribunal several times. I can assure you that I will put in the measures that will ensure that the interest of the public is not compromised,” he said.
Dr Ayine also defended the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration’s track record, highlighting the absence of questionable incidents of judgment debts during its tenure.
As a seasoned legal expert, Dr Ayine’s pledged to safeguard Ghana’s interests was reassuring. His expertise in international trade laws, commercial law, and natural resources regulation will undoubtedly be valuable assets in navigating complex international contracts.
