Accra, Jan 17, GNA- The Electroral Commission (EC) has called off the planned continuation of the recollation exercise for the Ablekuma-North Constituency after an attack on the proposed venue.
The recollation was scheduled to resume at 0800 hours Friday at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Commission.
The EC had planned to complete the results of three outstanding polling stations that could not be validated at the last recollation exercise on January 8, 2025.
When the Ghana News Agency arrived at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the EC at about 0820 hours, no police barricades had been mounted at the entrance of the Office to prevent unauthorised persons from accessing the EC Office.
Some police and military officers were seen parading the entrance of the EC Office while some party supporters had massed up opposite the entrance of the Office.
In previous exercises, all inner roads linking to the EC office were blocked with security offices manning the barricades to prevent unauthorised entry.
At about 9:40 hours, some of the supporters forced their way inside the Collation Centre and smashed the windows of offices at the Commission.

The supporters later beseeched the Corporate Office of the EC and threatened to cause mayhem if the Commission did not declare their preferred candidate winner of the Ablekuma-North parliamentary contest.
The Ablekuma-North Constituency is the only constituency that does not have representation in the 9th Parliament.
Five successive attempts to recollate the results for Ablekuma-North had been inconclusive as the EC was unable to complete the validation of results for some 62 polling stations whose original statement of results sheets could not be retrieved.
The National Democratic Congress has called for a re-run of the elections in the affected 62 polling stations, a proposal the EC has declined.
The New Patriotic Party on the other hand claims its cadidiate had won the seat by more than 300 votes per their independent collation.
At the last recollation exercise, Mr Vincent Obeng, the Returning Officer for Ablekuma North, laid down his tools out of “frustration.”
“It’s so unfortunate for me to make this statement that I’m done with Ablekuma-North. They should find a new Returning Officer to do their collation for them,” he said.
