Abesim, (Bono), Jan. 31, GNA – Mr Kingsley Kusi Appiah, the Assemblyman for the Abesim Ankobea Electoral Area in the Sunyani Metropolis has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to create Abesim as a sub-metro or a district.
He said now that Sunyani had been upgraded into a Metropolitan status, Abesim, the biggest town in the metropolis ought to be made a sub-metro to facilitate the rapid development of the area.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Abesim, Mr Appiah expressed concern that the area was still under-developed, despite its rapid population growth and thereby putting pressure on the use of social and health facilities.
He said the Abesim health center ought to be upgraded to a Polyclinic to meet the health demand needs of the growing population, underlining the need for a standard Senior High School for the town too.
Mr Appiah also expressed concern about poor access roads, lighting system and deplorable condition of some bridges in the town, saying water situation in the area ought to be improved as well.
He said new settlements were fast springing up in the area and appealed for more mechanised boreholes.
Mr Appiah expressed appreciation to Absa Bank for coming to the aid of the people, putting up a mechanised borehole for the Ankrana community in the town.
Hitherto, he said the people shared the ‘Ankrana’ stream with stray animals, a situation which was contributing to the rise in waterborne diseases in the area.
Mr Appiah appealed to other corporate bodies and wealthy and affluent natives of Abesim, both home and abroad to come to the aid of the town towards improving infrastructure development and thereby make life comfortable for the people.
