Accra, Dec. 30, GNA - Mr. Bessa Simons, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has praised Highlife star KK Fosu for his impressive musical career.
KK Fosu, a celebrated Ghanaian artiste, recently held a concert at Accra’s Bayview Village to commemorate his 25th anniversary in the music industry.
Bessa Simons, one of the concert’s special guests of honour, praised KK Fosu for creating timeless music over the years.
“Indeed, you are the true son of Highlife music, and you have stayed true to the genre over the past years and deserve to be praised for your works,” Bessa Simons told KK Fosu.
The MUSIGA President, in an interview with GNA Entertainment on the sidelines of the “Dstyle Concert,” stated that Ghanaian musicians ought to own the Highlife genre.
“I don’t think Highlife is dead or has stalled. For me, Highlife is still vibrant because it is played everywhere. It is just that some Ghanaian musicians don’t want to claim it.
“We have to claim our own and not be shy of our music heritage. I would keep fighting for Highlife, and I would urge the younger to pursue the genre,” he said.
During the concert, KK Fosu presented a citation to Bessa Simons for his significant contributions to the music industry, particularly in enhancing the welfare of musicians.
“Your tenure has been marked by a strong commitment to advocating for musicians’ rights and improving their conditions.
“Under your leadership, MUSIGA has implemented various initiatives aimed at providing financial support, healthcare services, and educational opportunities for both old and new artistes.
“One of your notable achievements is your role in negotiating better contracts and royalties for musicians, ensuring that they receive fair compensation for their work,” excerpts of the citation said.
