Volta Region records decrease in deaths related to road crashes

Ho, Dec. 20, GNA- Volta Region has witnessed a decline in road crashes related deaths between January and November 2024 as against same period in 2023. 

Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, Volta Regional Director, National Road Safety Authority who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency said the region recorded 82 deaths in 2024 as against 117 in 2023, representing 29.9 per cent decrease. 

She said pedestrian knocked down has also decreased by 3.2 per cent during the period under review as 90 knock downs were recorded in 2024 as compared to 93 in 2023. 

The region, however, witnessed an increase in road crashes during the same period with 484 crashes in 2024 as against 383 in 2023, representing 26.4 percent increase. 

Madam Ayer said a total of 800 vehicles were involved in the crashes in 2024 compared to 620 in 2024, representing 29 per cent increase. 

Persons injured during the crashes also increased by 4.1 per cent with 384 during the period under review compared to 363 in 2023.
