Two companies to undertake commercial mining in Dormaa Municipality-Dormaahene

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/R), Dec. 23, GNA – Two mining companies have expressed interest to undertake commercial mining in the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area has announced.

He said responsible mining activities in the area would create job opportunities for the people and help alleviate poverty and better the socio-economic livelihoods of the people too.

Osagyefo Oseadeyo Badu II, also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs asked people to cooperate with the companies when they commence actual mining in the area.

He was speaking at a thanksgiving service to mark the silver jubilee anniversary of his enstoolment which coincided with the 2024 celebration of the Kwafie Festival of the chiefs and people of the area at Dormaa-Ahenkro, and asked the people to also check the mines against environmental destruction.

“We must all ensure that the mining companies do not violate environmental regulation when they begin mining in the area”, Osageyfo Oseadeyo Badu II advised, urging the people not to hesitate to report the companies when their operations destroy the environment.

“Do not hesitate to lodge complaints against these companies when they pollute water bodies, degrade the land and unlawfully cause damage to the environment in the communities”, he stated.

The service was attended by Odeneho Akosua Fema Dwabeng II, the Paramount Queen mother of the Dormaa Traditional Area, the clergy, the local council of churches and some prominent chiefs in the Bono Region.

Osagyefo Oseadeyo Badu II said, “one of the mining companies has already secured license and the requisite legal documentations to commence operations while the other company is yet to obtain license”.

He gave the assurance that the proceeds from the companies would be strictly and prudently utilised for the development of the area and improve the lives of the people.

“Some of the proceeds will be extended to benefit even other communities in the Bono Region and beyond”, he stated.

Osagyefo Oseadeyo Badu II expressed appreciation to God for his protection and the honour to serve the Dormaa people in his 25 years of his reign and thanked individuals and organisations for supporting him to organise and celebrate his anniversary and the festival.
