Toase (Ash) Dec 27, GNA – Ghanaians have been urged to see police officers as partners in the promotion of peace, law and order as well as the prevention of crime in communities.

They should see law enforcement officers as relatives and friends, who are helping to ensure a peaceful environment and harmonious co-existence among all groups of people in the society.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Francis Abrokwah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who stated these, said it was important for Ghanaians to recognize the police as peaceful partners in nation building.

Speaking at the inauguration of a modern police station at Toase in the Atwima-Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti region, he said, police officers were just like the relatives and friends of people in the communities they worked and must be recognized as such.

The project, which was funded by Toase citizens living abroad under the Toase development Association (TDA) at the cost of $ 150,000.00, was completed in two years.

Mr Abrokwah, pointed out that the current democratic dispensation demanded constructive police-community relationship devoid of intimidation of citizens.

It was important for community members to work closely with police officers by given out timely information that would help to prevent the commission of crimes and other negative acts in communities.

He called for discipline and obedience to the law by all in the society to help prevent acts that could bring confrontation between the police and community members.

Nana Yim Awere I, Toasehene, commended the group for the gesture and urged other citizens to emulate the example and support the town with developmental projects.

“The situation where development burdens were left on the shoulders of government alone is a thing of the past”, he stated.

He called on the police administration to ensure early posting of personnel for the smooth operation of the station.

Mr Kwabena Osarfo, Chairman of the group, announced plans by the association to provide a library and Information Technology (IT) centre to promote quality education for the youth in the community.

He noted that, the forefathers of the community built a primary, middle and secondary schools through communal labour and individual contributions.

It was now their turn to emulate those patriotic steps and develop the community before political or any external intervention.

He commended Nana Yim Awere I for supporting the project with GHC54,000 and 300 bags of cement.
