Twifo-Frame (C/R), Dec 07, GNA – A tense situation unfolded at Twifo Frame in the Twifo-Hemang- Lower-Denkyira Constituency of the Central Region, prompting the deployment of military and police personnel to the area.
Chaos erupted between supporters of the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, after the Electoral Commission arrived at the station with
voting materials unaccompanied by security personnel, leading to confusion and tension among the supporters.
The situation went spiral and out of control around 1030hrs, but for the timely intervention of the presiding officer who helped to manage the situation and restore order.
Mr Foster Andoh, District Chief Executive, urged people in the constituency to desist from partisan politics at this crucial time, adding that peace must be embraced.
Meanwhile, at Saboni School Complex in Nyanyano in the Gomoa East Constituency, the name of Madam Hannah Amissah, 80-year-old woman, could not be found in the voter’s register, despite being confirmed during the exhibition exercise.
Madam Amissah, upon reaching the polling station in the Gomoa East Constituency, discovered that the name “Ama Amissah” appeared instead of her own.
According to her she checked her name along with two others, during the voter exhibition and confirmed her name.
Speaking to the GNA, Madam Amissah expressed dissatisfaction with the situation.
“The names of my son Daniel Amissah, my in-law Lucy Amissah all appeared but with the exception of mine.”
The Presiding Officer, Mr. Cornelius Gbetie, said that Madam Amissah, also failed to produce her ID card to verify her name and as a result, was not allowed to vote.
