Sakumono, Dec. 16, GNA – The Tema West Municipal Education Directorate has announced plans to organise more academic quizzes and extracurricular activities to improve the academic performance of students in the municipality.
Mr Isaac MacCarthy Mensah, the Tema West Municipal Director of Education, explained that the initiative encouraged active learning and healthy competition among students, saying that such programmes would also build their confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
He made this known during an inter-school quiz competition organised by the directorate for all 21 public schools in the municipality.
The competition, which was part of the fifth anniversary of the directorate becoming autonomous from the Tema Metro, was funded by Ahotor FM.
He stated that education goes beyond classroom lessons and examinations, hence the need to hold such programmes to build the resilience of the students.
Mr Mensah added that, per the new curriculum, holding such programmes was a way of assessing the performance of the students and therefore urged public schools to take full advantage of the programme and ensure maximum participation by their students.
He commended the management of Ahotor FM for their contribution in boosting academics in the municipality.
He applauded all the participants for their efforts and emphasised the importance of such competitions in promoting academic excellence: “Those who take part in the quiz do well in their BECE.”
