Bolgatanga, Dec. 7, GNA – The Chairman of Northern Development and Democratic Institute, (NDDI), Naa Tapha Mahamadu III has commended Ghana’s major political and electoral stakeholders for their strong desire to maintain the nation’s position as a beacon of democracy in West Africa.
According to him, the commencement of voting began smoothly across Northern Ghana and the expression of confidence in the process so far by all the political representatives at the various polling booths is an indication of the actors’ determination to foster peace and unity in the country.
Naa Tapha Mahamadu III who is leading an NDDI 120-man independent observer team was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region after touring some 28 polling stations to assess progress of the polls.
“it is 1pm now and our team has already visited about 320 polling stations across Northern Ghana and spoken to EC staffs, security personnel, political parties representatives as well as voters, and all what I can say preliminarily is, so far so good”, he said.
The Chairman of NDDI who is also the Paramount Chief of Dalun in the Northern Region has urged all the actors to maintain the good faith and maturity they have expressed so far to ensure that the country emerged out of this exercise peaceful.
“We have to maintain the maturity and camaraderie expressed together so far in this sacred civic and constitutional duty to make Ghana proud” he said.
He implores all and sundry to continue to support the EC to complete this exercise peacefully.
Naa Tapha Mahamadu III therefore commended the Electoral Commission for a great job done so far and implored all and sundry to continue to support the Electoral Commission in this exercise to a successful end.
According to him, Ghana is the only country we have, and we should all work together to jealously guide its peace and progress.
He indicated that the NDDI would continue to monitor the exercise across the entire Northern Ghana to support all stakeholders to work and produce an electoral outcome that reflects the will of the people of Ghana.
“The NDDI will issue a report after the elections”.
