Demonstrate love for others through actions, not words – Christians advised

By Emmanuel Nyatsikor

Ho, Dec. 20, GNA – Reverend Jean-Paul Agidi, in charge of the Akim Oda Pastoral District of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) Friday advised Christians to demonstrate their love for others through their actions rather than words or emotions.

He reminded them that Jesus Christ, throughout His earthly ministry, even at the point of death demonstrated beyond human comprehension his love for humanity through His actions.

“Let our actions always be rooted in love,” he said.

Rev. Agidi gave the advice in an online sermon on the theme “Action Rooted in Love” based on Matthew chapter 11: 1 – 15 and monitored by the Ghana News Agency.

He stated that Jesus’ unconditional love led to people’s liberation and deliverance adding, “Jesus Christ gives us all we need including our salvation without taking anything from us.”

He said today the actions of many African politicians and leaders for their people were motivated by political expediency rather than love.

“These politicians and leaders, unfortunately most of who are Christians, demonstrated their so-called love for the people during their political campaigns just for their selfish political interests,” Rev. Agidi asserted.

He said, regrettably the actions of many Christians today were also rooted or motivated by their lust or desire for wealth, money and power.

“Men and women seeking greener pastures pretend to fall in love with partners staying abroad just to secure visas or green cards and immediately they succeed they divorce them.

“Such unfortunate actions are rooted in selfishness and betrayal, not love,” Rev. Agidi noted.

He urged Christians to emulate and demonstrate the unconditional and selfless love of Jesus Christ especially during the Christmas season.

Rev. Agidi admitted that it was hard to love especially in situations where the people you love turned against you or became your enemies but said the love of Christians for such people should be unconditional.

He said Jesus did not come to the world to preach love, but He was love personified and His actions and ministry were rooted in love.

“As Christians, Christmas should be a reminder for us of the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ so we should continue to live holy lives even in times of adversity to enable us to meet Him when he comes,” Rev. Agidi advised.

He used the opportunity to wish all Ghanaians a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year but urged them to celebrate the season responsibly.
