Accra, Dec 2, GNA-Accra Ubuntu Lions Club held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and donated phase-one items to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) of the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra.
The items donated and activities carried out during Phase One of the project include, Rambo 600 Polytank, Painting of NRC, Child-friendly Wall Stickers decoration, PA System, two Office tables and six office chairs.
The rest are two gas cylinders, a gas stove, a baby weighing scale, an Infantometer, a height board, CCTV installation for security, a digital hanging scale, three signages and snacks for children.
Lion Edwina Judith Safee-Boafo, the Club President, speaking at the event said the gesture formed part of the Club’s High Impact Hunger Project to promote the nutritional health and well-being of children admitted at the Hospital.
The high-impact project primarily sought to promote the health and well-being of children battling Malnutrition, hence the choice of Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital.
The President recounting how the project started said hunger was a complex issue and addressing it required a multifaceted approach.
“We are convinced as Lions that we can save more lives by adopting and refurbishing the NRC, renovating the skills training shed to empower the mothers.
“We will renovate the hospital’s Corn milling room, which serves the nutritional needs of the hospital and also generate funds to support the NRC,” she added.
Lion Edwina expressed appreciation for the hard work, dedication, and compassion of fellow Lions, non-Lions, partners, and sponsors who made the project possible.
Lion Dr Seth Tele Hassan, the Project Chairperson, giving an overview of the project said the club would construct a skills training shed to empower mothers and enable them to generate income for themselves under the second and third phases.
He thus called on all members of the club to support them financially, adding that “our high impact Project is a testament to what Lions can do for our communities when we put our hearts to it”.
Lion Dr Helena Asamoah-Hassan, the District Governor, commended the Club for the initiative and urged the hospital to put the items to good use while ensuring proper maintenance.
She also encouraged mothers to always adhere to doctors’ advice to ensure the growth and well-being of their children.
Dr Maame Yaa Nyarko, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, receiving the items on behalf of the staff and management expressed gratitude to the Accra Ubuntu Lions Club for the gesture adding that this would make a lot of impact in the lives of children who visited the facility.
