Nalerigu (NE/R), Nov 18, GNA – A total of 51 development projects have been completed in the North East Region as part of the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project.
Mr Yidana Zakaria, North East Regional Minister, who announced this at a press briefing at Nalerigu, said the projects cut across various sectors and had brought transformation to the lives of the beneficiary communities.
He emphasised that “The North East Region has benefitted from the SOCO project since 2023. Under the project, we have seen substantial investments in key sectors that directly impact the well-being of our people.”
He said, “In education, nine schools have been constructed, health sector has also seen significant improvements with eight health facilities built, nine rural markets have been built, two rural roads have been constructed, 18 water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities have been built, and four youth development projects have been implemented.”
He added that “In 2024, more than 89 sub-projects are being implemented in the region. These include 23 school infrastructures, five CHPS Compounds, 18 social infrastructures, 39 WASH facilities, one Fire Service Bungalow and three equipment and other supplies”.
The SOCO project is being implemented by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development with funding from the World Bank to amongst others ensure resilience of communities.
Mr Zakaria said the SOCO project was not only focused on infrastructure and economic development but also to strengthen social cohesion, peace, and unity.
Mr Alhassan Osman, Community-Driven Development Specialist, SOCO Project said the projects undertaken were community-driven as they were selected by the community people.
Madam Elizabeth Dwamena, Communications Specialist, SOCO Project appealed to the media for accurate publicity on the impact and achievements of the SOCO projects.
