Dr Faith Agbozo elected Secretary-General of African Nutrition Society

Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – Faith Agbozo (PhD), the Head of Department for Family and Community Health at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, has been elected as the new Secretary-General of the Africa Nutrition Society (ANS) for a two-year tenure.

The new Secretary-General will be responsible for ensuring that the activities of the Society are undertaken in accordance with the ANS Constitution and regulatory frameworks of the Society.

Dr Agbozo’s position was announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the 9th Africa Nutrition Conference hosted in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The Conference, organised by ANS and the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, was on the theme: “Food and Nutrition in a Changing World: Implications for Nutrition Security and Health.”

The Conference provides a forum for the exchange of new knowledge and innovative approaches for the management of national priorities.

Dr Agbozo is wholly accountable to the Executives of the Board of Trustees, follows up and reports on business initiated by the Board of Trustees, ANS President and its entire membership.

The Secretary-General takes responsibility for all correspondence and issuing all notices, takes charge of the minutes of all meetings, safe record keeping of all documents and records that belong to the ANS, and makes a report of all matters that come under his/her cognizance for the information of the Executive Council.

Dr Agbozo said, “It is humbling to ascend the position of the Secretary General of the Africa Nutrition Society.”

She said leveraging connections and networks as alumni/fellow of the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development, Africa Science Leadership Programme, Africa Research Excellence Fund Towards Leadership programme, DAAD German Academic Exchange Service ClimapAfrica Program and Fogarty International Center at NIH Global Health program HBNU consortium, “I am confident of a successful tenure and growth of the Africa Nutrition Society.”

This year’s theme addressed key critical global issues which impact food and nutrition security and the food supply chain.

The theme also reflected current global dialogues and national commitments to food systems transformation for a better world.

Dr Agbozo is a registered nurse, certified public health nutritionist and a Senior Lecturer at the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho-Ghana.

She holds a PhD in Public Health from the Heidelberg University Medical Faculty, Germany and an MPhil in Nutrition, Bachelor in Family and Consumer Science and Diploma in Nursing all from the University of Ghana, Legon plus an additional diploma in General Nursing from the Korle-Bu Nursing Training College, Accra.

The African Nutrition Society is a registered scientific professional body, a learned society formed by nutritional scientists, food scientists and other health professionals working in, and with an interest in the nutrition agenda for Africa.
