Prez Akufo Addo courts corporate support for armwrestling development

Accra, Oct 21, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for the sport’s remarkable growth, calling on corporate Ghana to support its continued development.

In a meeting with the Ghana’s Armwrestling Federation, President Akufo-Addo expressed admiration for the sport’s rapid progress having pushed Ghanaians onto the various committees of the international federation and won a significant number of medals for Ghana since 2016 with the brilliant outing during the African Games.

“Armwrestling has made tremendous strides in Ghana, and it’s heartwarming to see our athletes excel internationally,” President Akufo-Addo said. “The GAF deserves commendation for its tireless efforts especially for saving Ghana during the African Games.”

The President highlighted Armwrestling’s potential to promote healthy lifestyles, youth development, and national pride.

“Armwrestling embodies the values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork,” President Akufo-Addo emphasized.

“It’s essential we nurture this sport to benefit our youth and nation, and I urge corporate and multinational institutions to support or partner Armwrestling through sponsorships of development programs and participation in competitions.”

I wholeheartedly commend Charles Osei Asibey, an astute journalist with many portfolios and his board for study rise since 2016. “Armwrestling is traditional, but I didn’t know it was a sport we practice in Ghana until I started reading about it in the dailies”. Nana Addo said.

“I appeal to corporate Ghana to join forces with the GAF because the government alone cannot make it possible,” President Akufo-Addo said. “Together, we can create a thriving Armwrestling ecosystem benefiting our youth, promoting healthy lifestyles, and showcasing Ghanaian excellence.”

H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also praised Grace Minta for her super performance and ambassadorial role in the many achievements.

GAF President, Charles Osei Asibey, thanked the President for his endorsement and said the federation’s goal is to make Armwrestling a household name and the sport of choice in Ghana.

“We’re committed to encouraging participation, developing grassroots talent and producing both continental and global champions.” Osei Asibey said.

The GAF President expressed gratitude to the government and institutions like SES HD Plus Ghana, Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited, Twellium Industries, national Health Insurance Authority, Nguvu Mining Limited, Ghana Gas Company, ABL Eagle Extra Stout and the many others who have invested in the development of Armwrestling

The President tasked the sports minister to work with the federation in recognizing Armwrestling’s potential for national development.

Armwrestling will be given a training center and a secretariat for Africa will be situated in Accra.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare, Minister for Youth & Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, Mr. Ibrahim Adjei and other members of the office of the President, Pharm. Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Vice President for Ghana and Africa Armwrestling, DCOP Lydia Yaakor Donkor, Godfrey William Amarteifio and Husseini Addy all board members of GAF and some members of the Goldens Arms team.
