Gomoa Central MP presents start-up kits to 175 apprentice trainees

Gomoa Afransi (C/R), Oct. 18, GNA – Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Deputy Interior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, has presented start-up kits to 175 apprentice trainees after completing their six-month intensive skills training.

The kits were financed by the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) in collaboration with the Master Card Foundation, would help the beneficiaries to establish their own shops to improve their livelihoods.

This formed part of government’s initiative to support private sector employment.

The beneficiaries completed training in tailoring, dressmaking, hair dressing, pastries, baking and many others, were presented certificates, sewing machines, hair dryers, bakery ovens, hand dryers and other equipment.

GEA and Master Card Foundation officials explained that 87 masters, made up of seamstresses, tailors, hairdressers, bakers and others were engaged and paid with substantial amounts to train the 175 apprentices in a six-month course.

Mrs Quansah said government would continue to rollout good policy initiatives to support artisans and other self-employed individuals to reduce poverty levels.

She said the government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had kept faith, particularly with the youth who decided to be trained in various artisanal fields, to assist them live productive lives.

The MP said the government would continue to offer special programmes and policies for the people of the Gomoa Central constituency in the areas of education, health, security services, roads, youth employment and many others, to help transform human development.

She therefore entreated chiefs, Queen mothers, heads of families and parents in the constituency to rally behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and her candidature to retain the presidency and MP seat and to “break the eight”.

The MP called on the electorates to ignore politicians who foment trouble, chaos and other election violence to jeopardise lives, and vote for the political party that preached peace, unity and development.

Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the Gomoa Central District Chief Executive (DCE) said the government would not rest on its oars but strive to roll out good initiatives such business in a box project (BIZ BOX) that had sponsored these 175 apprentice trainees in the district to establish their own shops.

The DCE hinted that it was sad that although some apprentices had completed three-or four-years training programme, they could not afford to procure sewing machines and other start-up kits to own their shops due to financial constraints.

Mr Otoo said the government under President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia, had not done bad at all for the chiefs and the people of Gomoa Central and urged them to reciprocate the kind gesture.

He praised the MP for Gomoa Central for her lobbying skills that had brought many developmental programmes and projects to the area, impacting positively in the lives of the people.

The DCE said the latest report received from the consultants and Government Officials about the Agenda 111 project at Gomoa Afransi indicated that it was among 32 completed projects that the President would be commissioning before the end of November.

He reiterated calls on the people in the Gomoa Central Constituency to cast their ballot massively for Dr Bawumia and Naana Eyiah on December 7, 2024.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP and Dr Bawumia for the sponsorship packages for their training and further establishment of their shops.

They pledged to rally behind the government by voting massively for the MP and Dr Bawumia in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, for them to continue with the good policies and programmes for others to benefit.
