Accra, Aug 19, GNA – The Tema Oak Lions Club, in partnership with Chigo Electrical Appliance, has held a one-day guidance and coaching programme for some Junior High School (JHS) students at Ashaiman.

The event which formed part of the club’s corporate social responsibility was also aimed at preparing the students for the future and educating them about social vices.

Themed “Engaging the youth for a brighter tomorrow,” the students were engaged on careers paths, personal hygiene, drugs and substance abuse, as well as child prostitution.

Addressing the students, Eugene Elikem Tornyeavah, a Clinical Psychologist at the 37 Military Hospital advised the students to stay away from any substance which, when taken, can modify their perception, mood and cognitive behaviour.

He said the use of such substances, could have serious effects on their mental health and wellbeing.

Mr Tornyeavah who encouraged the children to be open minded and share the challenges with their parents, guardians and teachers said, some a move would save them from falling into depression which in turn may affect the mental health or lead them into substance abuse.

For his part, Lion Bright Kwabena Peti Agozie, Charter President of the Tema Oak Lions Club charged the candidates not to wait till they grew up before they got serious in life, especially with their studies

He urged the students to have vision in life as that could give them a clear direction of where they wanted to be in life.

He indicated that the programme which sought to educate the students was also aimed at providing a platform for the students to explore and ask the relevant question.
