GBA leadership calls on the National Chief Imam

Tema, Jan. 4, GNA — The leadership of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has called on the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, to seek his blessings and to present three new national titles to him.

Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, GBA President said, the decision was to introduce the boxing champions and their titles to the Chief Imam before anyone could fetch a glimpse of it, adding that “because the champions are young men from the Zongos and this is the very first time that Zongo boxers claimed three titles at the same time”.

Mr. Neequaye appealed to the National Chief Imam to ensure that, the plight of the GBA and boxers in Ghana was responded to.

He noted that the Office of the National Chief Imam should help amplify the call for support for the GBA to end some major challenges faced by boxers despite producing many world champions for Ghana.

“We want the National Chief Imam to appeal to his children who are in business and philanthropists to come to the aid of the boxers in the Zongos so that the upcoming talents and hardworking men who aspire for greatness would be motivated and encouraged to train hard and win titles.

The National Chief Imam prayed for the boxers to win world titles in addition to the national ones.

He, therefore, appealed to all and sundry to help the hardworking Zongo men and women in athletics and boxing.

After the call, the GBA president and other boxing officials inspected the NFC GYM which is opposite to the residence of the National Chief Imam where it is expected to host Zongo Boxing Academy (ZABOA) which would be launched soon.

Present at the meeting was Alhaji Taufiq, Chairman of Boxing Promoters in Ghana, Alhaji Abdul Samed, Manager, and Alhaji Khuzaima Osman, Manager and Chief Executive Officer of NFC GYM.

Joseph Akai Nettey widely known as Yussif is now the World RBO and National Flyweight Champion. Mubaraka Abubakar is now the National Middleweight Champion and Alhaji Haruna Osumanu, popularly known as Sabo Mei Kidi is now the National Heavyweight Champion.
