Kumasi, Dec. 23, GNA – Glico Insurance has donated five suction machines to help address accidents and emergency situations at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

A suction machine, also known as an aspirator, is a medical device that removes obstructions from a person’s airway.

Suction machines are used to help people breathe by keeping their airways clear when they are unable to clear secretions on their own.

Obstructions that suction machines can remove include mucus, saliva, blood, and secretions.

Glico Insurance also donated the amount of GHS 40,000.00 to offset hospital bills of some needy patients of the facility.

Mr Andrew Achampong-Larbi, Managing Director, Glico General, at a ceremony to hand over the machines said the company placed much emphasis on accidents occurrence and insuring against them.

It is important for people to secure personal accident covers for assets and businesses.

He indicated that Glico had scheduled these health-related corporate social responsibilities to the KATH, Tema General Hospital and School for the Blind.

Mr Achampong-Larbi believed that these suction machines were great apparatus that helped supported when there were emergencies to save lives.

He said the essence of saving lives was paramount to Glico, adding that, with settlement of hospital bills, it would motivate the beneficiaries to appreciate the benefits of insurance.

Dr Chris Oppong, Head, Accident and Emergency Unit, KATH, said with the high turnovers of most of the equipment, they frequently broke down and this was expensive equipment to replace, and it placed pressure on facilities such as the KATH.

The suction machines were a great relief to help save a lot of lives, especially accident and trauma lives, he indicated.

Dr Oppong called on individuals and organizations to assist with medical equipment to help hospitals function properly.
