Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – The Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) has inaugurated its newly-elected Council to steer the affairs of the Institute for the next two years.
The tenure of the new members, who were sworn into office during the Institute’s maiden Carols Night event in Accra on Wednesday, will officially commence on January 1, 2025 and end on December 31, 2026.
The new leadership is led by Tony Asare as President, and has Augustus Richardson as Vice President; Daniel Kwadjo Teye, as Honorary Secretary, assisted by Percy Ebo Sackey with Freeman Kwame Agbomanyi, as the Honorary Treasurer.
The rest are Social Secretary, Akosua Obeng Mensah; and Publicity Secretary, Awurabena Konadu Agyeman-Duah.
Dr Alex Boakye Marful of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Dr Joseph Amoah-Nyarko of the Christian University College (CUC) are the Academic representatives on the council.
The council members are Peter Atsu Amenyo and Ewurama Ocran.
Madam Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya West and a Senior Member of the Institute, attended the event.
In her congratulatory message to the new leadership, Madam Tetteh-Agbotui emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between the government and professional institutions to advance national development through impactful architectural solutions and constructive criticism.
Mr Tony Asare, the new President of the Institute expressed the Council’s dedication to advancing the Architectural profession, fostering innovation, sustainability, socially responsible design and contribute to Ghana’s progress.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration with government, industry stakeholders, and the broader community to champion the value of exceptional architecture and its vital role in society.
The event united architects of all generations, from Past Presidents and Fellows to Associates, Probationers, and students of the Architecture Students Association of Ghana.
